The Canadian Cardigan Corgi Club is saddened to announce the passing of long-time breeder and exhibitor Shelley Camm on August 10th, at the age of 63. While Shelley’s passing was not unexpected, the news still came as a sad shock, even in this year of so many. Shelley had been through so much in the last few years, with the sudden death of her partner, Chris; the unexpected loss of her heart dog, Dolly; and then the cancer diagnosis and treatment. Many others would have given up, but Shelley didn’t. She carried on to reach a level of excellence in our beloved breed that I doubt we’ll ever see again; surely no one will ever again take all the major placements at a National Specialty as Shelley and her crew did at Halifax in 2016. And I know that in the last few months her priority was to place her remaining dogs in the best possible forever homes she could find.
Shelley was a strong proponent of genetic testing, of judges’ education, and on-going education of breeders. She served the Club as president, secretary and show chair for the National Specialties in 1994 and 2012. I am glad that we, as a Club, were able to honour her with our Lifetime Achievement Award while she was still alive; she truly deserved it.
